Colonial School District students enjoyed another stellar showing at the 2014 Technology Student Association National Conference, earning five first-place trophies and one third-place trophies.

Thirty-one students from Colonial Middle School and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School traveled to National Harbor, MD., for the five-day conference in late June and early July. At the largest convention to date 6,829 students from across the United States and Germany competed in more than 70 events ranging from animatronics to website design.

The students used technologies including CAD, Java, photography, video, music, modeling, and fabrication to compete in areas covering the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) spectrum from biotechnology to fashion design to robotics.

The team events required students to create their solution as well as a display of their projects and a binder showing evidence of the research and production required. Teams that placed among the top 12 then went through an interview process where they presented their projects to the judges.

Nine CMS students earned two first-place and one third-place trophies as well as finalizing in fourth place in two other events at the national conference.

Conicelli congratulates all of those who participated in the competition!
